Transition and Implementation (Community Action 11-1)

Having been formally Made by the Borough Council mid 2022, the next phase of the MACK Plan activity was for its implementation. James Hitchcock, who had been involved in the MACK Plans development over 4 years, joined the Parish Council with the remit of its transition and implementation.

The aim of the ongoing activity is three fold:

  • To manage the introduction of any agreed development to ensure that it meets the aims set down by the community through the MACK Plan.
    • Engagement with the Planning Officer continues.
  • To monitor ongoing planning applications, ensuring that they comply with the Policies set down within the MACK Plan
    • A set of guidelines has been drafted and distributed to each member of the Parish Council
  • And, progress the Community Actions through engagement and active involvement of our residents.
    • Volunteers have been active across many of the Community Action areas. Details are included below.

Local Green Spaces (CA 4-1). From feedback during the MACK Plan development this is mainly relevant to Milton Abbott where there are a number of sites that could potentially benefit from Green Space recognition. To that end, Cllr Stephen Seamons is reviewing the current position and potential.

Rights of Way (CA 4-2). An activity group has been established that covers the parish area (ie Milton Abbott and Chillaton). If you are interested in joining the group, please contact either Cllr James Hitchcock or Cllr Chris Stone. The current activity does not include “the hamlets” but the group would welcome engagement with anyone interested from that area.

Mobile and Broadband (CA 7-1). The main areas that raised concern through the MACK Plan about connectivity were the Hamlets, Farmers and those to the east of the parish around Westcott. Councillor Hitchcock is to progress discussion on the later, volunteers are sought to look at the potential issues and resolution across the hamlets and farming community.

Road Safety (CA 8-1). There are now active Road Safety groups in both Milton Abbott and Chillaton. If you are keen to assist, please contact Cllr Stone (MA) or Cllr Hitchcock (Chillaton). A group lead is still required to cover the Hamlets area.

Q Class Development (CA 9-1). A small team has been formed to look at the potential burden from future Q Class development under the leadership of Cllr Gary Vanstone.
